Fundraising Evening
The Oscars annual Variety Show and Charity
Fundraising evening was held on 18th December.
A packed house cheered and welcomed back Oscar the Thais4Life Teddy
Bear donated by Martin of Bristol as he arrived to triumphant music
on the back of a motor bike, Oscar has been travelling the world on
P&0 Cruise ships for the last year covering over 116,000 nautical
miles thanks to Robin of P&O.
The fast moving show was hosted by the one and only Mr Norman Vernon
and starred the legendary Maisie Trollette with the inimitable Dolly
John and Lucy Lastik.
Following the spectacular show the start of the
charity fundraising commenced. A raffle was held with prizes donated
by Jim of Ambiance, Oscars, Panorama/Funny Boys, Cafe Royale, Tony
ex White Night and Copa Showbar.
This was followed by an auction featuring Classic Wines, Vintage
Ports and many other items.
Maisie Trollette then presented David and Vic of Thais4Life with
100,000 baht for Jing Jai Orphanage raised in UK by Maisie, Jason,
Davinia, Jo Frances and friends in Brighton.
David of Oscars then took to the stage to announce the result of the
Sponsored Diet which has been going on for the last 14 weeks. In
total David and Barry lost 25 kilos raising from sponsors, once all
money is collected, the staggering sum of 180,000 baht. Thanks to
all the sponsors but in particular
Jim of Ambiance, Peter and Glenn of
Copa showbar and Lazlo and James.
Next was the draw for the gold for which only 50 tickets were sold
at 1000 baht each . The 2 prizes were a King's Limited Edition 50th
Anniversary
22 carat gold coin in gold mount worth in excess of 30,000 baht
donated by John from Hawaii and
a half baht gold ring donated by Ken from Sydney. The main prize was
won by Mick of Le Café Royale and Johnny from Dublin won
the ring.
The evening rounded off with three Oscars being presented to three
winners who were not here for the Pattaya Oscars held earlier in the
year. Receiving the Oscars were Mr Norman Vernon, Michael Burchall
and Mick from Le Café Royale.
A splendid evening and in total 376,000 baht is now designated for
local charities. |
